Consequences of Car Overheating. Why Should You Not Take Overheating Lightly?

Driving your car despite overheating can lead to major repairs that you may have to throw on your credit card. Yes, the repairs are that expensive.

When the engine overheats, the head gasket bears the brunt. It's a rubber gasket that sits between the engine head and the block and acts as a barrier between the cooling system, exhaust system and the combustion chambers of the engine.

A blown-off head gasket means the coolant and engine oil will mix up and burn together inside the combustion chamber. Due to this, the engine gets seized up shortly after, and it's a really expensive fix.

Therefore, whenever your vehicle overheats, pull over and call for mobile car repair assistance. The more you drive an overheated engine, the more damage will you incur.

How is it fixed?

The engine head is taken out to gain access to the cylinder block. On top of the cylinder block, one can easily locate the blown head gasket lying in its own gunk. (Molten rubber soaked up in fluids should be cleaned properly before proceeding further). Once the gunk is wiped off, the engine head is put on the lathe machine for resurfacing, so that it sits perfectly on the engine block after installing the new head gasket.

Once everything is back in place, the timing belt is synced with the crankshaft, and the engine is tightened up.

Fresh engine oil and coolant are then poured into the system, with a new oil filter spun on. If everything goes right, your car should drive as smooth as ever.

Crank up the engine and let your car idle until the fan kicks in and you are sure it's not going to overheat again. Take it for a spin around the town and on the highway. If everything feels right, pay your Camperdown mechanic and thank him for his hard work and time.
